Why is my indicator service light on? How do I know what needs to be serviced?

The service indicator light on the Hillrom Progressa bed is a general alert that the bed requires maintenance or attention. It could indicate routine maintenance, a fault, or a safety check. Here’s how to identify the issue and resolve it:

1. Check the Error Log:

  • The Progressa bed is equipped with a diagnostic system that records faults or maintenance requirements.
  • Access the error logvia the user interface or control panel:
    1. Press the menu or settings button (if available).
    2. Navigate to the "Error Log" or "Service Menu."
    3. Look for fault codes or service alerts.

2. Common Causes for the Service Light:

  • Routine Maintenance:

    • The bed may require scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) as per the manufacturer's recommendations.
    • Check the PM schedule in the service manual (often yearly or semi-annually).
  • Mechanical Issues:

    • Malfunctioning actuators (e.g., for head, foot, or height adjustments).
    • Bed frame misalignment.
  • Electrical Issues:

    • Faulty wiring or connectors in the control panel or motor assemblies.
    • Power supply issues or battery problems (if the bed has a backup battery).
  • Sensor Problems:

    • Weight-sensing system malfunction (used for patient monitoring or bed position detection).
    • Brake or caster sensor faults.
  • Software or Calibration Issues:

    • Software errors may require a reset or firmware update.
    • Positioning systems may need recalibration.

3. Steps to Diagnose the Issue:

  1. Inspect the Bed:

    • Look for visible signs of wear, damage, or malfunction (e.g., jammed actuators, loose wiring, or damaged casters).
  2. Perform a System Reset:

    • Turn off the bed and unplug it for at least 1 minute.
    • Reconnect and turn it back on to see if the service light clears.
  3. Refer to the Service Manual:

    • Use the error code(s) from the log to cross-reference with the service manual for troubleshooting steps.
  4. Check Bed Functions:

    • Test all bed functions (e.g., height adjustment, Trendelenburg/Reverse Trendelenburg, side rail controls) to identify any malfunctions.
