The equipment won't turn off using the power switch

I got a unit for repair that won't turn off. It starts up fine, but when you hit the power switch, it just keeps rebooting in a loop until the battery dies. I tried swapping in a power supply from a working machine to test it. Not only did it not fix the problem, but it seems to have fried the good power supply too—now that machine is broken as well.

Equipment: Dräger Savina 300

did you check the power switch?

I didn't replace the part, but I swapped the wires to test it; the two top pins were moved to the bottom and the bottom ones to the top.
And the problem remained the same.

if you disconnected the wires from the power switch and it didn't turn off...that sounds like a short somewhere and if the power supply got fried, that would support a short.

I didn't leave the leads unhooked; I only reversed the polarity at the switch. I swapped the switch for a new one today, but the issue remains. I suspect the power supply unit (PSU) is faulty, but I can't locate the circuit diagram to perform proper troubleshooting.

the power switch is actually a software switch, not a true power switch. The Savina shuts down via an on screen menu. Power supply is a self contained module.
