Routine cleaning of connector ports

Why? The connector ports on the Acuson Sequoia are a place where dust and lint can and will collect. In order to cool the scanner, air flow is normally routed through the scanner’s main filters. As the filters become more restricted, air will take the path of least resistance into the scanner. The design, of the micro-pinless connectors on the Sequoia, makes the collection of dust and lint extremely problematic. Dust and lint become trapped on the small, pointed pins on the connector’s surface. This build-up of debris can and will, over-time, cause a variety of intermittent issues on all types of probes. • Probe ID failures • Electro-magnetic interference (EMI) susceptibility • Calibration failures • Dropout and image quality degradation How? Ports should be cleaned with the scanner power OFF. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently wipe the connector plate. Compressed air or a vacuum is recommended to aide in the elimination of the dust. When? This process should be integrated into a comprehensive PM and filter cleaning program. Many of our customers have experienced great success in minimizing intermittent issues with routine filter and connector cleanings, either: • Bi-weekly • Monthly • Or based on filter monitoring
