Bedside Monitors - Patient Leads - After Market Recommendations/ Best Practices/ Disposable?

We’re in the process of addressing the over abundance of our patient alarms and alarm fatigue with the nursing teams on the med surg floors and non-crtical areas that are utilizing telemetry and/or centralized bed side monitoring. One of the portions of the larger scope is to look at the affect that our leads have on nuisance alarms especially when considering lead quality, age, user maintenance/cleaning, etc. First, does anyone out there have any strong positive feelings towards any particular aftermarket brand/ vendor/ type of lead sets that they swear buy and have seen a noticeable reduction in correctives due to leads and an increase in signal quality/ reliability? Any leads that have particularly well designed clasps/ snaps that function well with mobile patients? Currently the only product available to our users through the hospital Lawson purchasing system is OEM (either snap or gator, departmental preference), so that’s our baseline. Also, does anyone have good or bad experiences with disposable lead sets? Possible minor affects on infection control aside, any info on fewer or more patient lead related corrective calls, better/ worse signal quality, etc? Brand/ vendor/ model recommendations for any that you feel strongly about one way or the other (so I can go straight to the good guys and skip the bad ones)? Any and all feedback would be appreciated, either from CE techs or managers.

In full disclosure, I work for what is now becoming one of the fastest-growing alternatives to OEM ECG Cable manufacturers in the US and would like to tell you a little about this alternative. Our growth has been much due to the high quality of our cables and our Fanatical Warranty promise, whereby if any of our cables fail due to manufacturing defects during the product’s warranty period, it will be replaced overnight. The cables are designed to match the OEM design and manufacturing specifications, so the quality will be equal, if not better.    We have thousands of satisfied customers in hospitals and clinics in the US, many of them who have become repeat buyers due to the enormous savings the find over the OEM alternatives, all while maintaining the quality standards.    Our customers in general do not request disposable lead sets as they can become expensive - we specialize in the reusable one with snap and alligator endings because of this.    Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at diego@cablesandsensors.com or at www.CablesandSensors.com.    I hope this helps!

Being an ISO and providing service predominantly for private practice, I find the Clearchoice Universal adapter clips for use with tab or snap type electrodes to outperform the Nikoclip and many others. They work very well with all inexpensive (cheap) electrodes purchased by the small practices where any equipment is put through its paces by fresh out of school MA’s. In regards to cables, aftermarket suppliers with proven compatibility/ warranty support would have a cost edge over OEM. And budget constraints could be met with reusable cables over disposable, IMO. Request aftermarket manufacturer sales reps provide cable samples to test and evaluate, those who do would display they support their product line and the drive to win your business over the competition. Those who do not, well, would reveal their not willing to go that extra mile to prove there the best choice for your needs. If by chance you proceed with sample request from aftermarket manufacturers, post if you have time, which played ball. Hope this helps and good luck.
