Most Common Parts for A SmartCR PM

The Fuji Smart CR is a workhorse machine that will last a facility for many years if it is maintained correctly. When a SmartCR goes down, it's usually because either a technician slammed a cassette into it and broke something or because it did not have regular Preventive Maintenance (PM). A PM should be completed once per year at a minimum. Two or more PMs per year may be needed if the SmartCR is in a less-than pristine area. For example, The Fuji SmartCR is a favorite among equine doctors because of its superior image quality. And many of these equine doctors have their SmartCRs at racetracks or stables. The amount of dust and other buildup makes it necessary to do more frequent PMs on CRs at these locations. No matter where it is stored, a SmartCR that does not have at least one PM per year is very likely to have problems. When a SmartCR is not properly maintained, dirt and debris will build up, causing friction and part stoppage. This can result in an expensive repair. Regular Preventive Maintenance stops problems before they become expensive problems. The most commonly replaced parts during a PM on a SmartCR are the rollers, X-Guides (which crystallize from repeated heat exposure), lamps and suction cups. Each PM takes approximately 3-5 hours and should involve complete dis-assembly of the SmartCR down to it's basic structure. A good engineer will clean each part and inspect it for damage. Board components will be checked for burn marks or leaks from capacitors. Sensors and joints will be checked for cracks or wear indicating improper wear and tear. As the engineer reassembles the SmartCR, they will lubricate as needed and ensure proper range of motion for each moving part. The reassembled Smart CR will be vacuumed and free of dust and oil buildup. The Flash IIP workstation will also be involved in a proper PM. The workstation itself will be vacuum cleaned and checked for signs of wear. And the engineer will clean up the database (after properly backing the database up of course) and ensure the hard drive is not reaching a capacity that could result in lost images. The Fuji SmartCR is a very complicated, sensitive system and only an experienced engineer should perform preventive maintenance. Replacing parts damaged by improver preventive maintenance can become very expensive. But a qualified engineer following these preventive maintenance steps can keep a Fuji SmartCR in service for many years. (Note: This article includes general suggestions for preventive maintenance and should not be followed as a complete guide to preventive maintenance. Only a qualified engineer should attempt preventive maintenance on a SmartCR. All PM steps identified in the Fuji Smart CR Service Manual should be followed.)
