L-I-D on readout but lid will not lock and the instrument will not start. Can you help?

This is almost always caused by a microswitch which the lid closes. Replace the switch.

Not sure if you resolved this Dan, but take the covers off. Watch the latches as you close the lid. There are switches that need to be pushed in order for the display to clear.
It's usually those micro switches that go bad. U can get them from any electronic sites (Newark, mouser)
